Abstract

Gonadal development of the golden-eyed tilefish, Caulolatilus affinis, a significant component of the artisanal fisheries of Baja California Sur, Mexico, was analyzed using histological techniques. The reproductive cycle was determined. C. affinis is a partial spawner with asynchronous development of the gonads. The reproductive pattern was characterized by a period of maximum spawn from October to April coinciding with highest values of the gonadosomatic index (GSI). This suggest that the GSI describes the reproductive activity of the species adequately.
