Abstract
This qualitative research explores the reasons why women students of the bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Universidad Veracruzana choose this course. The empirical data that forms the basis of this research was generated through semi-structured interviews with 20 female students of the degree. The results show that the major factors which motivated them to study mathematics are: 1) they realized that they were good at math; 2) they like math; and 3) influence of their teachers. It is suggested that the above factors, among others discussed in this paper, promote the development of a strong identity as good students of mathematics, which favors the choice of the university degree.
