Abstract

This work presents the study of the electrocatalytic activity of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in 0.5M H2SO4 on dispersed nanoparticles of different ternary Pd0.5M0.4Pt 0.1 (M = Cu, Ni, Fe and Co) alloys, through thin-film rotating disk electrode (TF-RDE). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed homogeneous distribution of nanoparticles between 17-45 nm in sizes. The catalysts containing Co, Ni or Fe, show equivalent behavior to Pd alone, however, the Pd0.5Cu0.4Pt0.1 catalyst showed similar specific activity (μA cm2 real) but twice specific mass activity (mA mg-1) compared to Pt synthesized under the same experimental condition.
