N2 - In recent years a number of studies on Sugar-cane Bagasse Ash (SCBA) as a partial Portland cement replacement in concrete have been addressed. The research has focused on the pozzolanic activity and mechanical properties of mortars and concretes containing SCBA; however, the durability of such composites needs to be evaluated, especially when no-proper curing is applied. This research evaluates the effects of the SCBA on the corrosion risk of mortars with no curing. Cylinders and reinforced small-scale slabs with 0, 10 and 20% of SCBA as cement replacement, were cast. The effective chloride diffusion coefficients, Deff, were estimated and the slabs were exposed to wetting-drying cycles in a 3% NaCl solution for 2000 days. Corrosion potentials were processed using the FFT to estimate the corrosion initiation period. Results show that the SCBA decreases the Deff which in turn has the beneficial effect of diminishing the corrosion risk.
