Abstract

In some applications, induction generators are an important alternative for producing electric power because they have some advantages over synchronous generators. The aim of this paper is to present the induction generators effect in the transient stability of a multimachine Electric Power System. Digital simulations are compared with test results of a laboratory power system that is composed of a squirrel cage induction generator interconnected with a synchronous generator. Results are presented for a three phase fault applied at the terminals of the synchronous generator, in order to determine the transient stability of both generators (synchronous and induction) after the disturbance. The effect of the static load characteristics in the assessment of the critical clearing time of the arrangement is also studied.
