Abstract
In this paper the phytoplankton pigment concentration, as showed by the monthly composite images derived from the Coastal Zone Color Scanner of the Nimbus-7 satellite, were graphically related with maps of yellowfin tuna abundance from the logbook records of the mexican tuna purse seine fleet during 1984-1986. There is a relationship between yellowfin tuna abundance and the color fronts, regardless of phytoplankton pigment concentration. Moreover, data series made from the month average by area showed a lag of one season between the highest values of tuna abundance and the phytoplankton pigment concentration.
