Abstract
Diabetes is a non transmissible chronic disease in which genetic factors play important roles as well as environmental factors in its incidence. The optimal diet composition is recommended because it promotes the metabolic maintenance with closer to normal blood glucose levels. This article reviews some aspects related to diabetes nutritional treatment, objectives of diet, energy contribution, and macronutrients and micronutrients that satisfy all the body requirements according to its age and physiological status to prevent, delete and treat both acute and chronic diabetic complications.
