Abstract

The World Bank (2012) has recognized the need for promote Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) skills in all sectors, because a 10% internet connections increases was associated with a 1.38% increase in GPD. Also, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (2009) pointed that a high level of internet generates a growth of 2% of GDP. Whereas ICT internet has had a positive effect on economic growth, the relationship of the gross capital formation, the cost of internet, the kilometers of optical fiber and the economically active population was investigated, in order to assess the impact in Mexico. We worked with an historical data series, from 1991 to 2010, based on the econometric method of Ordinary Squared Minimums (MCO, for its acronym in Spanish). A mathematical function based on Schumpeter's theory was considered. Looking into the relation between the study variables, it was observed a positive impact, thereby proving the examined theory, due to the inclusion of fiber optic as a means of transmitting data, considering this latter as an immaterial force about the processes of production.
