Abstract

Evaluation of crack initiation direction under mixed loading mode at intermediate strain rates with the maximum circumferential stress criterion is used for this analysis. The numerical and experimental results are compared with those obtained with the energy criterion and the strain energy density factor S. The advantages and limitations of this procedure are discussed.
