Abstract

In this contribution, the supramolecular structures of 3-carboxycoumarins and their charge-transfer complexes were revisited with emphasis in carbonyl interactions. A plethora of soft C-Hπ, C-HO (carbonyl), carbonylcarbonyl (both perpendicular and parallel type), carbonylπ, carbonylX (Cl, Br), and π-stacking interactions are very common motifs among 3-carboxycoumarins. These interactions arrange the molecules in the solid state and are useful to understand biomolecular recognition processes.
