Abstract

Taxonomic descriptions in Englis and Spanish and a key to 16 closely related species of Muhlenbergia montana (Nutt.) Hitchc. complex were generated by means of DELTA computer programs, using data generated from a morphological character list. Data from flavonoid content of 14 species were recorded in DELTA format and analyzed separately. Both data sets when analized independantly and toghether, they suggest that M. virescens Kunth is ancestral with other species evolving from it in specific geographic regions. A phenetic comparison of the morphological and chemical features suggests a different rate of divergence on each character among species in the closely related group of taxa.
