Abstract

The effects of tundish geometry on liquid steel flow, heat and mass transfer was mathematically simulated. Narrow pouring boxes in billet tundish led to a high turbulence in the back and front walls of the tundish. Simple changes of geometry yielded lower turbulence in the steel entry zone and decreased the volume of dead zones.
