Abstract

The fish larvae community along the northwestern coast of Baja California Peninsula was characterized based on a zooplankton collection gathered in hauls made by IMECOCAL between September 1997 and October 2000. A total of 265 taxa representing 91 families were identified. The observed fish larvae community structure corroborated the faunal complexity previously reported for the study area, alternatively being dominated by coldtemperate water larvae in winter-spring and by warm water taxa in summer-fall. Interannual variability was also observed in the community structure, attributed to El Niño 1997-1998 and at a lesser extent to La Niña 1999-2000.
