Abstract

Predation by adults of different species of Coccinellidae was evaluated on the sugarcane aphid, Melanaphis sacchari (Zehntner), to which were exhibited known numbers of aphid individuals. Predation capability of larvae of the most outstanding predator species was determined. The red ladybird, Cycloneda sanguinea (L.), was the most voracious of the species evaluated, with the fourth-instar larval stage having significantly greater predation capability on the sugarcane aphid.
