Abstract
In the paper, necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for a solution of the linear transport equation to have exponential asymptotics of the form φ(t, x, v) = exp(λ0t) {cψ(x, v) + O(e-εt)} as t → ∞. Sufficient conditions on the coefficients of the transport equations are obtained ensuring exponential asymptotics.
