Abstract
A cross-sectional study was carried out in young males to evaluate the association between testosterone with blood pressure (BP) and lipid levels. BP was measured using a sphygmomanometer. The technique of immunoassay (ELISA) was used to measure concentration of androgens and for determination of lipid were; triglycerides (glycerol-phosphate oxidase/peroxidase), cholesterol (cholesterol/oxidase), HDL (phosphotungstate) and LDL (heparin). Statistical analyses shown a relation of the age with testosterone (r =0.896), androstendione (r=-0.177), systolic pressure (r=0.952), diastolic pressure (r=0.869), triglycerides (r=0.962), cholesterol (r=0.959), LDL (r =0.960) and HDL (r =-0.754). Multiple regression analysis showed a positive correlation of testosterone with systolic pressure, triglycerides, cholesterol, LDL and negative correlation with HDL. This data indicate an association of testosterone with BP and lipids levels.
