Abstract

This paper presents the results of analytical studies undertaken to assess the effectiveness of multiple Static VAR Compensation (SVC) in aiding damping of inter-area oscillation in the Mexican interconnected system. A frequency-domain methodology is adopted to coordinate controllers as well as to minimise the potential for adverse interaction between control loops. The effectiveness of SVC voltage support for damping inter-area oscillations is verified by non-linear time domain simulation studies.
