    Abstract

An Auxiliary Resonant Commutated Pole (ARCP) is presented in this paper for a Buck-Boost converter to reduce the switching power losses. Several circuits have been implemented for Buck, Boost, and forward Buck-Boost topologies that need the aid of voltage balancing circuits for the split DC link. The auxiliary soft switching network of this work does not rely in a balancing circuit making the principle of operation simple and straightforward. The mechanism of operation of the ARCP is described along the paper using idealized waveforms and a steady state analysis, together with Saber simulations and experimental results obtained with a 4 kW prototype, which verifies the correct functioning of the soft switching circuit with the DC-DC converter.
