Abstract

Antimicrobial activity of hexane, methanol, chloroform and aqueous extracts from Bocconia frutescens were tested against sobre B. pumillus, E. coli, EHEC, L. monocytogenes, P. vulgaris, P. aeruginosa, S. cholerasuis, S. typhimurium, S. lutea, S. aureus, S. epidermis, V. cholerae and C. albicans. For determination of antimicrobial activity the standard method of diffusion disc plates on agar was used at dose of 1 mg/disc. Minimum inhibitory concentration was determined using the agar dilution technique and bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity was performed using the tube dilution technique. Chloroform and methanol extracts showed inhibitory activity against B. pumillus, S. lutea, S. aureus, S. epidermidis y V. cholerae. Chloroform extract showed bactericidal activity against B. pumillus, S. aureus and S. epidermidis at doses of 3.2 mg/ml. The activity of the same extract was bacteriostatic against S. lutea at the same doses and bactericidal effect was observed at doses of 7.2 mg/ml.
