Abstract

Contaminated water is the main vehicle for the transmission of waterborne diseases, requiring periodic, routine control of physicochemical and microbiological parameters to ensure standards of water potability for human consumption. The aim of this study was to analyze the quality of water consumed by inpatients, users, staff and the surrounding population of the Katembe, Incassane, Mutseco and Chamissava health centers in the Katembe municipal district, Maputo City. In this district there are cases of cholera and diarrheal diseases annually. The methodology of this research was observational descriptive with a qualitative, exploratory approach with bibliographic and documentary procedures. The collection was held once a week for one month in the weeks of 5/6; 12/06; 19/06 and 03/07 2019. From the collected material the parameters pH, conductivity, color, turbidity, nitrates, nitrites, chlorides, ammonia, total hardness and quantification of fecal coliforms sent to the National Laboratory of Hygiene Water and Food were analyzed. The results of microbiological samples of fecal coliforms exceeded the allowable limits at the Katembe and Chamissava health centers. The physicochemical parameters of total hardness and chlorides also exceeded the allowable limits at the Incassane and Katembe health centers. In view of these results, it can be concluded that the water supplied to these health centers does not correspond to the potability requirements according to Ministerial Diploma 180/2004, 15 September of the Ministry of Health. Recommend the improvement of water disinfection methods, health and environmental education á Population.
