Abstract

In this contribution, a simple description of a synchrotron light laboratory is offered, highlighting the basic elements comprising it. The fundamental features of the emission spectrum, that distinguishes it from other conventional sources, are described. We also describe the types of experiments that can be performed at such facilities. Finally, we review the most important pieces of research performed by various groups of Cuban scientists using Synchrotron Light Source facilities, in particular at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS).
