Resumen

In this research study, the effects of temperature compensation in the tundish using plasma heating are physically and mathematically simulated. A Dimensionless Plasma Heating Number was developed in order to satisfy the thermal similarity criteria and simulate tundish heating operations in a non-isothermal water model using a steam jet blown on to the surface. The experimental results are interpreted through a turbulent κ - ε mathematical simulation. The objectives were to study, using a water model, the heat transfer and fluid flow in a tundish heated by plasma, to analyze the effects of temperature change on the flow in the system when the steel is being reheated and to study the effectiveness of temperature compensation and controllability.
