Resumen

The evolution of microbial consortium and the removal of complex mixtures of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from waste air during biofiltration process were discussed. Biofiltration is a biotechnological process for the treatment of air polluted with VOC. The compatibility between support material and microbial consortium was evaluated by microcosms experiments. The microbial consortium was established in winter and summer temperature submitted biofilters. It was observed that the degradation activity of the microbial consortium was kept in spite of variations in thinner concentrations, temperature and exogeneous microorganisms.
