Resumen

The wear of Ultra-high Molecular Weight (UHMWPE) Polyethylene inserts, it continues affecting the longevity of the total knee replacement (TKR) together with the aseptic loosening, and both constitute the two main causes of failure [1]. Considering this, it is necessary to find appropriate solutions to avoid the excessive wear and until the rupture of the polyethylene elements. The main purpose of this work is develop a simple methodology for modeling and analyzing using Finite Element Method (FEM) of the contact zones into metallic femoral insert and UHMWPE tibial insert where values of stresses are greatest, according to normalized gait cycle. Results obtained are very similar compared with experimental tests [2] and 'in press' [3].
