Resumen
A numerical quasi-geostrophic model of the evolution of vortical perturbations in a two-layer ocean is proposed which is based on the use of the contour-dynamics method. A detailed study is made of the case of an axisymmetric vortex on the OMEGA -plane. A numerical experiment performed confirms the conclusions of a linear stability analysis and makes it possible to follow the nonlinear stage of evolution of a system disintegrating into two vortices with inclined axes spreading in opposite directions.
