N2 - The rupture lines in carton possess the self-affine scaling associated with statistical invariance of crack trajectories under affine scale transformation of coordinates, (x, y), in the form x′→λx, z′→λHz. The scaling exponent for carton is found to be H = 0.69±0.04. The effect of self-affine roughening on crack mechanics is studied. The invariant criterion of self-affine crack initiation in the carton sheets, KFC, as well as the large scale fracture toughness of carton, KIC, are determined.
