Resumen

Mechanical alloying of Fe and Ti and mechanically induced instability in Fe 2Ti powders were discussed. It was found that the intermetallic Fe 2Ti phase was unstable upon mechanical milling producing a mixture of supersaturated α-Fe(Ti) solid solution and FeTi intermetallic phase. It was also found that the mechanical alloying of 2Fe:1Ti leads to the same intermediate and end products. The result show that Fe 2Ti cannot be obtained through a mechanical alloying process.
