Resumen

Red crabs were present throughout the continental shelf in winter and spring, with a maximal abundance of 450 kg/ha at the end of spring at depths of 50-100m. When sea temperatures reached 13-16°C (summer-autumn), frequency and abundance decreased especially at shallow depths, and only below 150m were numbers relatively high. Adults performed inshore-offshore movements, with higher frequency in shallow waters, coinciding with the breeding season, in December through April. As water temperature increased, crabs moved to deeper areas. -P.J.Jarvis
