Resumen
This paper describes the results of an improvement program aimed at getting a better performance of SICARTSA's BOF converter. The program objectives were to reduce the reblow rate from 45% to 25%, increase tuyere life from 500 to 1000 heats, increase refractory life from 1350 to 1600 heats and increase production rate by 10%. The approach followed consisted on modifying a static model for charge control, establishing a new kinetic and predictive model and fostering a better maintenance program to improve refractory life.
