N2 - Flavonoids are phenolic compounds constituents of part of the human diet; they exert antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antiviral activities; also, they make protection against cardiovascular diseases, cancer and other pathologies like infections produced by protozoan. Due to flavonoids are important resources to find new antiprotozoan drug candidates, the information obtained suggests that flavonoids are excellent candidates for the development of new, effective and non-toxic antiprotozoan drugs. Here we review the principal findings about flavonoids activity against the most prevalent protozoan that produces human diseases: Plasmodium, Leishmania, Trypanosoma, Entamoeba, Giardia and Trichomonas.
