Resumen

Current fields calculated for specific shelf areas on the basis of an Ekman diagnostic model in barotropic and baroclinic variants are used to estimate the contributions of the individual terms to the residual of the primitive equations. It is concluded that horizontal advection plays a significant role, and inferences are drawn concerning the nature of the effect of baroclinicity.
