Resumen

To study and analyze the drying process of hardwood, experiments drying tunnel experiments of Red Oak wood (Quercus Candicans Neé) from the North Mountains (Sierra Norte) in Oaxaca State (Mexico), were performed. The wood to be treated had an average initial moisture content of 62.93% and' two drying schedules were employed: an intense at temperatures between 47 and 71°C and a mild one at temperatures between 37 and 48°C, both schedules done at two airflows (1.073 m/s and 1.64 m/s). Thirty-two planks were pretreated with cool water before to be drying. The quality of wood was measurement quantifying the level of defects (warpage, splittings, checkings, kink, bow and crook) generated by each drying schedule. It was founded that the mild temperature schedule generates less defects.
