N2 - In this work we studied the production of betalains by suspension culture of Beta vulgaris. The B. vulgaris grew at a doubling time of 4.8 days. The betalains production was found to be not-growth related. The culture's response to different carbon sources was investigated. Best growth and pigment production was obtained with sucrose.
