Resumen

Introduction: The number of patients with type II diabetes mellitus (DMII), high blood pressure (HBP) and ischemic heart disease attended in tertiary hospitals has increased. Additionally to revascularization procedures, in these patients it is compelling to control risk factors, but this is not always attained in these hospitals. Objectives: To determine the attainment of therapeutic goals in these patients. Material and methods: Two hundred patients with DM2, HBP, and ischemic heart disease were examined twice in one year, and during this time span an educational program was applied to the responsible physicians. Blood pressure (BP), body mass index, glycemia, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and lipid profile were analyzed. Results: An improvement in the proportion of measuring and the mean values of BP and lipids was observed, much less in DM2 control variables, an none in weight. Systolic and diastolic BP control was observed in 72 and 50%, low density cholesterol in 62.5% and glycemia in 7%. Conclusions: In patients with high risk profile therapeutic goals related with a better prognosis are not always attained. It is needed a constant educational and awareness campaign in order to improve the quality of patients care.
