Abstract
The number of presentations witnessed by a scientist over the course of an academic career can reach hundreds. This figure, however, drops below ten when referring to those presentations that have been remarkable for their quality, delivery, and impact. This entails that most presentations in conferences and symposia, do not meet the goal of effective communication. In the present essay, based on pertinent scientific literature, we propose five practical tips to increase this efficiency. They are: to design the presentation ad hoc for the kind of audience, to center the presentation on the message, to design the presentation with independence from scientific texts, to care for the design of the visual material, and to observe the allotted time.
