Abstract

The propagation of the tide harmonics M2, N2, S2, K2,O1 and K1, at the lagoon system Bahia Magdalena-Almejas, is simulated by a barotropic numerical model. The equations were integrated with centered finite diferences in space and forward in time. The model outputs are the variation of the free surface and the vectorial current field. Modelled results were compared, qualitative and quantitatively, against field measurements of level variation and current velocity, with satisfactory results. The highest velocities registered and modelled in the study area were during ebb tide. The most important component of the velocity in 'Boca Entrada' was the East, while for the channels zone 'Canal Gaviota and Canal Rehusa' was the North.
