Abstract

We have calculated the differential cross section of πd elastic scattering for incident pion momenta between 500 and 2000 MeV/c. Our model takes into account the nucleon-nucleo 1S0, 3S1-3D1 and all the pion-nucleon S- and P-wave channels in a full three-body calculation, and all the pion-nucleon D-, F-, and G-wave channels within an impulse-approximation calculation. We considered the deuteron wave functions of the Paris and Bonn nucleon-nucleon potentials. Our model describes the experimental data rather well at low and high pionic energies, but gives a poor reproduction between momenta of 700 and 1000 MeV/c. In general, the Bonn wave functions yield results in slightly better agreement with the experimental cross sections than those from the Paris potential.
