Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the sociability of migrant children in schools in Yurécuaro, Michoacán, Mexico. To this end, we recorded interactions and researched the friendships reported by the children and their parents. Th e explanatory model we used has implied an interpretation of the ethnographic evidence, taking into account the unequal relationships of cultural groups in contact. We found indications that the sociability of migrant children at school faces obstacles that limit their potential. Our conclusion is that calling attention to unequal relationships, which at the same time are economic, political, and symbolic, provides a broader panorama of intercultural education.
