Abstract

Colombia has made significant advances in recent year to reduce water inequality in rural parts of the country. The key method by which this has been achieved in community-based management, complemented by the assistance of government, NGOs, and the private sector. There is some resistance to this method; in general, though, support is widespread, and its use continues to be prevalent. This book reviews efforts to date to resolve the rural water supply problem, assessing the successes and failures of various programs and systems, and identifying potential solutions for improving community-based management in the future.
