Abstract

Two new pentacyclic triterpene taraxast-20-ene-3α-ol (1) and taraxast-12,20(30)-dien-3α-ol (2) were isolated from chloroform extract of leaves of Hylocereus undatus. These triterpenes showed protective activity against the increase of skin vascular permeability in rabbits. The protective effect, measured as the reduction in leakage of Evans blue, was of 53.5% and 70.1% for 1 and 2, respectively, after peritoneal treatment at a dose of 50 mg/kg. Comparison was made between the action of the compounds and a protective microvascular drug known as troxerutin (64.5%) at the same doses.
