Abstract

5-Methoxytryptamine, β-methylcarboxylate hydrochloride (indorenate) is a new antihypertensive serotonin derivative. We evaluated its genotoxic activity using the mouse bone marrow cytogenetic test and the human lymphocyte culture cytogenetic assay. As endpoints we measured chromosomal aberrations, sister-chromatid exchanges and cellular proliferation kinetics. Our results agree in both systems showing that indorenate is a non-genotoxic agent in these assays.
