We thank Dr. R.R. Tice for his encouragement and teaching of the in vivo technique. We thank Drs. E. Hong and G. Chamorro for giving us the new drug. This research was partially supported by COFAA.

N2 - 5-Methoxytryptamine, β-methylcarboxylate hydrochloride (indorenate) is a new antihypertensive serotonin derivative. We evaluated its genotoxic activity using the mouse bone marrow cytogenetic test and the human lymphocyte culture cytogenetic assay. As endpoints we measured chromosomal aberrations, sister-chromatid exchanges and cellular proliferation kinetics. Our results agree in both systems showing that indorenate is a non-genotoxic agent in these assays.
