Abstract
The thermal characterizations of finned tube banks with small number of rows and convergent (divergent) arrangements were experimentaliy obtained. The heat transfer surface was a finned tube bank with staggered arrangement of six transversal and five longitudinal tubes rows and convergent (divergent) angles of 5deg;, 10°, 15° and 20°. For comparison, a conventional finned tube bank with staggered arrangement was also studied. The convective coefficient distribution on each transverse row of tubes and the average heat transfer in the entire bank in the Reynolds number range of 10000 to 30000, were obtained. It was found that for convergent (divergent) angles greater than 10° and for the same flow rate the divergent arrangement is more efficient than convergent arrangement, from the point of view of heat transfer.
