Abstract

Co-10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 at. % Sn powder mixtures were milled for 1080 ks in a conventional ball mill. The as-milled powders were analyzed by XRD, TEM, SEM and DSC. XRD patterns of as-milled Co-10 and 20 at. % Sn powders showed the presence of an amorphous-like phase, while those of other compositions presented crystalline phases. Crystallization temperature and activation energy of crystallization of amorphous Co-10 and 20 at. Sn mechanical alloys showed a good agreement with values reported by other authors. TEM observation of as-milled Co-10 and 20 at. % Sn powders revealed a crystalline phase of nanometer-order size dispersed in the amorphous phase.
