Abstract
A visualization of the flow patterns within a cyclone separator was carried out. This visualization was performed under different conditions (Re=123720 y Re=23860) to determine the influence of cyclone inlet gas velocity on the flow patterns. Smoke particles were injected into the gas stream entering a cyclone built using cast acrylic. The smoke particles were illuminated using a laser light and images were taken using a CCD camera to visualize turbulent structures formed within the cyclone. From these images, qualitative and quantitative analyses of the changes in turbulent structure size were performed. It was found that as Reynolds number increases, turbulent structure size is reduced, modifying the flow patterns within a cyclone separator.
