Abstract
This research paper analyzes the learning opportunities the Minecraft video game offers to study number sequences at the secondary level. A didactic activity was designed that con-sists of three sequences of activities where it is asked to rep-resent a numerical sequence with figures built in Minecraft, define a general rule, and answer questions about the charac-teristics of the sequence. This didactic design was applied to 253 high school students, aged between 11 and 13, in various 2-hour sessions. The study is of a qualitative type, the data was obtained from the worksheets, screenshots and group ple-escenario naries. It was found that the students established the design and construction of the initial sequence, reducing the com-plexity by establishing other more straightforward sequences of even type. The role of visualization was fundamental since it allowed us to propose an arrangement to the figures of the succession and to distinguish constant or variation pat-terns, which contributed to the generalization and approach of a rule. It is concluded that Minecraft provides a scenario to represent situations of variation, visualize regularities and support generalization.
