Abstract

Maya crude was hydrotreated in a pilot plant. The pressure was varied in the range of 70-100 kg/cm 2, temperature between 380-420°C, and space-velocity was varied between 0.33-1.5 h -1. The hydrogen-oil ratio was kept constant at 5000 scft/bbl. Asphaltenes were precipitated from the hydrotreated products by using a batch reactor with n-heptane as solvent. The effects of reaction conditions on asphaltenes properties during hydrotreating are discussed in terms of changes in heteroatoms contents and structural parameters by using elemental analysis, metals content, VPO aggregate molecular weight, XRD and NMR measurements.
