Abstract
To know the behavior of the surface chlorides concentration (Cs) and of the chloride diffusion as function of time is important in the models for predicting service life of concrete structures. It is known that the value of the variable Cs is linked to environmental factors. The aim of this study was to obtain a model representing the influence of a marine microenvironment on the surface chlorides concentration (Cs). This model was obtained from the experimental results of concrete specimens exposed in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. Based on a sinusoidal model, we analyze the behavior of Cs in other similar studies reported in specialized literature, as well as the perform of environmental chlorides in another studies in the Caribbean region. The data showed that Cs was variable in function of time and the climatic effect, which was the basis for the development of a sinusoidal oscillation model. This model reflects the behavior of the chloride concentration in the concrete surface in a marine microenvironment, particularly of the Progreso Port, Yucatan, Mexico. It is important because data can be obtained and used for predictive analysis of chloride diffusion in concrete structures in similar environments.
