Abstract

The design process of a two-wheeled tractor which can be produced in Mexico by local manufacturers is covered in this paper, along with design-related tests of the main components. The tractor size and the engine selection are based on economic considerations. The tractor configuration meets the clearance and wheel spacing requirements for field operations in the more common crops produced in Mexico. Design and selection of components are the result of cost and performance comparisons between standard and locally manufactured parts. The manufacturing cost of the tractor presented is that estimated by Mexican manufacturers and suppliers.
