Abstract

The tourist coastal area represents complex social reproduction scenarios, given the fact that the development of this activity in Mexico has been based on a model of exploitation that avoids the ecological system that supports it. This is attributed to inadequate planning, government disarticulation and the generalization of socio-environmental problems of the coasts. The beaches, as coastal elements, present social and environmental particularities that require methodologies that regulate their variety. In this sense, this work aims to propose the use of the Systemic Approach (using the Soft Systems Methodology) for a close up to coastal management from a local perspective. The results obtained were a participatory diagnosis and a conceptual model of self-management for the beaches of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. It was found that, from local studies that allow the community a lea-ding role towards a sustainable use of the coasts, the socio-environmental linkage improves.
