Abstract

The well-known absolute reaction rate theory of Eyring was successfully extended to the prediction of viscosity of live crude oils by previously tuning the viscosity model with viscosity measurements of the dead oil. Two simple EOS were incorporated into the viscosity model to calculate all the thermodynamic properties required within the Eyring?s modeling framework. Highly satisfactory representations of oil viscosities were realized by using only a single tuning parameter valid over a wide pressure range. The model can be easily implemented in any reservoir simulation software. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 2007 AIChE Annual Meeting (Salt Lake City, UT 11/4-9/2007).
